My outdoor essentials
When I first started solo hiking, I had no idea what kit I needed or indeed where to even start! I though it'd be useful to share the bits of kit that have become essential for me:
Satellite communicator: Garmin InReach mini - the most expensive bit of kit I own, but probably the thing that gives me the most comfort when I'm out on my own as I know my husband and family can see where I am and I'm always contactable if I have no phone signal, something that happens often!
Day hike bag: CAMELBAK Arete 18 Hydration Backpack - I love this lightweight day bag from Camelbak, small, lightweight and able to carry two litres of water, this is perfect for my waterproof, lunch, hydration bladder and camera.
Walking boots: Decathalon waterproof walking shoes - if you're looking for a pair of inexpensive, waterproof walking shoes, these are a fantastic option. I had these when I was first getting into walking and they carried my feet for nearly 600 miles before i needed to change them.
