Woodland wandering

Thank goodness it's finally started to cool down! This morning I took myself over to Wendover woods for a lovely Saturday stroll.

Start point: Wendover woods carpark (HP22 5NQ)

Distance: 8.5 miles

Time: 3 1/2 to 4 hours

I started my walk by turning right out of the car park and heading towards the fitness trail and hill fort. It was just before 9am on a sunny saturday so it was a case of dodging the local park run at the start of the walk! As I came out of the woods I headed down the hill towards Kingsash where there was a beautiful pond and church.

From here it was a trek over the fields, stopping past a few hamlets and making friends with the Chickens before turning back on myself and making the slow, steady climb back to Wendover woods.

This is the furthest I've walked in ages - it was lovely to get outside and listen to the birds. There's something so magical about walking in woodland - I always feel my happiest in the woods, I think it's because I used to love the magic faraway tree books as a kid and I love to imagine some of the big old trees around me could contain Moonface and Silky.

This walk has also helped me to realise how important getting outside is for my mental health - I feel so much calmer after getting outside today. Plus it's another 8 miles towards my 1,000 mile goal!
